Culture, cuisine highlight Greek Fest in Palatine

The music, the culture and, of course, the cuisine of Greece will be celebrated by hundreds in Palatine this weekend when St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church hosts its annual Greek Fest.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday and runs until midnight at the church, 133 S. Roselle Road. Hours Saturday are 3 p.m. to midnight and Sunday, noon to 11 p.m.

Visitors can enjoy live music — traditional Greek and as well as more modern tunes — throughout the three-day festival, along with Greek dance exhibitions, kids games and Plaka shopping.

The food is the real star, though, and in addition to what's available for those who make it to the festival grounds, organizers will again run the popular drive-through for those just hoping to grab a bite to eat. Drive-through hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The fest also features a Grand Raffle featuring a grand prize of $10,000 or a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Free parking with shuttle bus service to the festival grounds will be available at Holy Family Parish, 2515 Palatine Road, Inverness, and Marion Jordan School, Palatine and Harrison roads, Palatine.

For more information, as well as a coupon for free admission, visit the St. Nectarios website, st.nectariosgoc.org or the Greek Fest Facebook page.

Visitors might come for the food, but there will be much more happening at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church's annual Greek Fest this weekend in Palatine, including live music and games and activities for kids. Daily Herald File Photo, 2012
