Elk Grove has spent $3 million to battle emerald ash borer

Elk Grove Village officials released new numbers Wednesday on how much the village has spent battling the emerald ash borer.

In all, the village has spent about $3 million so far to take down existing trees and plant new ones since 2007. By the end of the replacement program, the total cost will be approximately $4 million, officials said.

The village board Tuesday approved an agreement to plant 2,750 more trees over the next five years. Some 2,050 trees have been replanted to date in village parkways
