Indian Trails Library encourages residents to read summer-long

Summer has officially arrived, and the Indian Trails Public Library's Summer Reading Program is already in full swing! At the large kickoff on Saturday, June 11, library staff signed up 347 community members, with the largest group being 243 children. Attendees created pennants, decorated Mariano's cookies, colored flower pots and enjoyed a photo booth.

It's not too late to join the fun; kids, teens and adults can participate until the program ends on Sunday, July 31.

Reading over the summer keeps kids' minds prepared for the upcoming school year. Creative ideas for encouraging children to read include reading aloud to a favorite stuffed animal, checking out a cookbook to try a delicious recipe or making a project from an arts and crafts book.

Summer Reading Program participants will also have a chance to win great prizes such as Ozobots, Strawbees, books, DVDs and a Kindle. Teens can join in on the fun by entering to win Amazon gift cards, while adults have a chance to take home an iPad mini. To register for the program, visit the Indian Trails Temporary Library at 70 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove or the Prospect Heights Branch at 99 E. Palatine Rd., Prospect Heights.

Residents looking to escape from the summer heat can attend a variety of programs at the library. Young readers can enjoy Art Start and Candy Crush programs while older kids can compete in Young Olympians and relax at Summer Spa Day. Adults can participate in Library Trivia Night and Create a Quote of Art: An Inspirational Painting Workshop.
