Chicago White Sox announcer Benetti picked to call national game

Television sports broadcaster Jason Benetti, who has been announcing home games for the White Sox this season, will get a national stage on Wednesday.

ESPN has picked Benetti to handle play-by-play duties for its Wednesday Night Baseball broadcast with the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers (9 p.m. CST) Benetti, who also does college football games for ESPN, will join analysts Doug Glanville and Rick Sutcliffe in the booth.

As part of its global focus on baseball, the ESPN broadcast will also highlight the game's focus on Mexico, and former Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela will visit the booth.
