St. Charles teen earns Eagle Scout rank

One June 12, Michael "Micky" Corvino celebrated receiving the rank of Eagle Scout with his fellow Scouts of Troop 13 at a Court of Honor held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles.

Micky's project improved the trail system at Corron Farm in Campton Township. It involved building and installing two wooden benches, installing and painting seventeen trail marker signs, and painting and installing fire break posts that show employees where to cut the prairie for controlled burns. The project also included installing two overview signs of the trails at the park. Prior to Micky's project there were no rest areas, marked trails, maps, or fire break posts at Corron Farm. The project took four weekends of labor including 150 hours of labor, as well as fundraising for materials.

Micky earned 36 merit badges in his Scouting career, as well as the 200 Miler Hiking Award, Kayaking BSA award, and Snorkeling BSA award. Micky attended Gerber Scout Camp for five years and attended High Adventures in Boundary Waters, Philmont Scout Ranch, Florida Sea Base, and Glacier National Park. Micky held the leadership positions of Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Historian (twice), and Assistant Patrol Leader.

Micky recently graduated from St. Charles East High School where he was a member of the Canoe Club and a recipient of the Human Relations Award. He is also active with the Bethlehem Lutheran Church youth group. Micky plans to attend University of Colorado Boulder in the fall.
