Dunkin' Donuts opens in Sleepy Hollow

The long-awaited Dunkin' Donuts in Sleepy Hollow has opened, and Village President Stephen Pickett says he's looking forward to reaping the benefits.

Plans to bring the restaurant and drive-through to a vacant storefront at 1051 W. Main St. had been in the works for nearly two years before the shop officially opened Friday, Pickett said. With its location along Route 72 and proximity to Spring Hill Mall, he said, the coffee and doughnut shop is convenient and accessible for both residents and visitors.

And in a bedroom community that brings in roughly $30,000 in annual sales tax, Dunkin' Donuts could also make a difference in the village's budget, as a portion of the sales tax revenue generated from the shop will go in the village's coffers, Pickett said.

“Every nickel and dime will be helpful,” he said. “We're excited to see them there.”

Officials won't be able to estimate how much additional revenue will be generated annually until months down the road, he added, after they analyze the shop's success in that location.

The Dunkin' Donuts has 22 employees and operates from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, according to a news release from the company. The shop serves traditional menu items as well as new products such as the Caramel Latte Square doughnut and candy bar-flavored coffee options.

The shop will be operated by The Khowaja Organization, a Chicago-based franchisee that owns seven Dunkin' Donuts in Illinois, owner Jaffer Khowaja said in a statement.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, at which time the first 100 customers will receive a free travel mug, according to the news release. Free doughnuts will be also be given away throughout the day, and the B96 radio station is expected to hold a remote radio show live from the shop from 5 to 7 p.m.
