Food pantry donations collected during parade

Supplies dwindle at local food pantries during the summer months. The Wheaton July 4th Parade provides an opportunity for the community to fill those shelves.

The Shopping Cart Brigade from St. Matthew United Church of Christ will march in the 2016 Wheaton July 4th Parade to collect food and cash donations for the People's Resource Center and the Interfaith Food Pantry. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. on North Main Street and continues to downtown Wheaton. This is the 36th appearance of the precision drill team in the parade.

Suggested items to donate are: canned vegetables and fruits, soup (canned and mixes), canned tuna or chicken, beans (dry or canned) and rice (dry), baking mixes/pancake mixes, spaghetti sauce and pasta, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, diapers (sizes 4, 5 and 6), and baby formula.

St. Matthew United Church of Christ is located at 1420 S. Gables Blvd., Wheaton. For more information, visit www.stmatthewucc.org.
