Judge won't reconsider sentence in crash that paralyzed man

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) - A northeastern Illinois judge won't reconsider the 10-year prison sentence she imposed on a man who admitted driving under the influence in a crash that left another man paralyzed.

McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather sentenced 25-year-old Ruben Zendejas in May after the Hoffman Estates man pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI.

Zendejas failed to stop for a red light in Crystal Lake in February 2015 and struck a car driven by a 23-year-old man who's now paralyzed from the waist down.

Zendejas's attorney argued that the 10-year sentence was excessive in light of his client's potential for rehabilitation and lack of criminal background.

But The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald reports (http://bit.ly/21sOKKv ) Prather said Friday she considered all factors in the sentencing, including Zendejas' prior history with alcohol and drugs.
