Villa Park wraps up Summerfest with food, music, fun

For the 11th year in a row, the Villa Park community got together for Summerfest, where they listened to music from local bands, played games and enjoyed food from local vendors.

Summerfest, known as "the community's largest block party," kicked off on Friday night in the Ardmore Business District.

The festival continued on Saturday morning with a performance by the band Minors of Rock. The rest of the day was filled with music by bands including Truffle Pigs, Stix and Stone and Lake Effect.

Those with more of a competitive streak went head-to-head in the bags tournament. Others watched North American Pro Wrestling, which featured Anthony Antonelli, the Lucha Libre Tag Team Match, the Top Gunz, and more wrestlers.

There also was food provided by places like Fire Water BBQ, Tae Fu Chinese Restaurant and Michael Anthony's Pizza.

"We like coming here because it's our community, and we see lots of people we know." said Kris Macleod of Villa Park. "Plus, we live a block away; it's great."

Kids were kept entertained with a demonstration by Joe's Dojo, balloon animals, a magic show, and a traveling reptile show. Others dared to ride a 100-foot zip line and try the Euro-bungy and jump around in bouncy houses.

More than 50 volunteers helped make the festival happen on Saturday by working at booths and midway games.
