Report: Hastert to serve sentence in Minnesota

Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert will serve his prison sentence at the U.S. medical prison in Rochester, Minnesota, ABC Channel 7 reported Friday, citing federal law enforcement sources.

Hastert, 74, has been ordered to report to prison by June 22 to serve a 15-month sentence for violating federal banking laws in trying to cover up past sexual misconduct while he coached high school wrestling in Yorkville. During his April sentencing hearing, Hastert acknowledged sexually abusing teens during his tenure at Yorkville High School from 1965 to 1981.

U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin suggested Rochester as a possible place for Hastert to serve his sentence because of its medical facility. Hastert will receive treatment for diabetes and a stroke he suffered late last year.

Hastert's federal inmate number is 47991-424.

A public information officer from the medical prison in Rochester could not immediately be reached for comment.
