Teen accused of burglary, attack in Carpentersville

An 18-year-old from Addison is accused of breaking into the home of a Carpentersville family he knew, stealing jewelry and attacking a teen girl and another woman last week.

Kevin D. Dimas-Zacarias, of the 300 block of West Dale Street, was charged Tuesday with residential burglary, aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint, all felonies, along with battery, a misdemeanor, according to Kane County court records.

According to a Carpentersville police report, the charges stem from an attack June 9.

That morning, a teen girl walked her younger sister to school, came home and saw a man running from a bedroom in the home, according to the report. The girl recognized the man as Dimas-Zacarias because he was dating a relative of hers. Dimas-Zacarias covered the girl's mouth and told her not to resist, but she tried to scream and began scratching and kicking him.

The altercation woke another woman in the home, who came out of her bedroom and saw Dimas-Zacarias on top of the girl, choking her. Dimas-Zacarias charged at the woman, causing her to fall, before running from the home. He came right back and knocked the woman down a second time - into a bird cage - before grabbing a backpack that he left behind and driving off, according to the report.

Police used his vehicle description and other information to find him in Bensenville Tuesday and he was brought to the police station in Carpentersville, where he gave a video recorded statement admitting to stealing two necklaces, a Lady of Guadalupe pendant, and a wireless cellphone charger, according to the report.

Dimas-Zacarias was being held at the Kane County jail on $80,000 bail. He is next due in court June 30 and faces a punishment ranging from probation to 15 years in prison if convicted.
