Libertyville Days off to lively start

The Libertyville Days festival began on Thursday with the Miss Libertyville Days pageants and musical entertainment by Wheelhouse and Rollover with Louis Zagoras.

This year's theme is Pirates of the 'Ville, and the festival runs through Sunday, June 19.

Friday's events include mini manis and hair braiding, a root beer-making demonstration, a children's cookie bake-off, and the RC Juggle Variety Show.

The parade at 10 a.m. marks the beginning of Saturday's programs, which also include the Fireman's Rib Cookoff and jalapeƱo-eating contest.

The festival finishes on Sunday with a Corvette and Chevy Street Rods show, a hot dog-eating contest for dads and a bags tournament.
