Elgin hosts 18th annual program to recognize new U.S. citizens

Are you a new U.S. citizen or do you know someone who is? If so, then you are invited to attend Elgin's 18th annual New Citizen Recognition Ceremony at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way. It is being held as part of the regular city council meeting.

Honorees will be provided with a certificate suitable for framing and a U.S. flag lapel pin. They will be personally congratulated on their achievement by Mayor David Kaptain and members of the Elgin City Council.

Eligible new citizens are those who live or work in Elgin, have taken citizenship classes in the city, or applied for citizenship through local agencies.

This ceremony is coordinated by Elgin's New Citizen Recognition Committee - a group of community volunteers including representatives from Elgin Community College, Gail Borden Public Library, The Literacy Connection, and Centro de InformaciĆ³n.
