Libertyville farmers market

Libertyville's farmers market is set to open for the season Thursday in Cook Park in the downtown area. The annual opening day watermelon cutting ceremony is set for 9 a.m. The market will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursdays through Oct. 20. Each week, rain or shine, vendors will feature fresh produce, fruits, pastries, artisanal breads, cheeses, plants, flowers, free range meats and eggs, kettle corn, pickles, olives, mushrooms, certified organic vegetables, local honey, sauces, goat milk soap, appetizers and even home made dog treats. Bring knives to be sharpened on site. Cook Memorial Library will host a children's story hour during the summer. Balloon sculpting and juggling will be provided by R.C. Juggles. Free parking is available in the covered parking garage on Lake Street and the surface lot on the west side of Milwaukee Avenue.
