Comic Book Mania to return July 16 to Gail Borden library

Join Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin, for the seventh annual celebration of all things comic books from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 16.

This year, Comic Book Mania Convention presents "Star Wars Mania!" Meet your favorite characters from a galaxy far, far away: the show will be visited by the Midwest Garrison of the Star Wars 501st Legion. Bring your cameras!

Once again, the Artists Alley will host over 25 professional comic book artists and writers to meet and greet you. Wear a costume to the convention and you will automatically win a prize. There will be free face-painting for the kids! Thousands of comic books will be for sale. Admission is free; everyone will receive a free comic book!

Join artist Mark Stegbaur and colorist Jason Millet as they introduce their newest all-ages comic book "Meet the Ghoul Scouts" at 11 a.m.

Join "Ready, Set, Draw," a fast-paced, Pictionary-style game, at noon. It is open to players of all ages. Prizes will be awarded.

Insider's peek into the "Star Wars" films with inside jokes, secret references, and more with "Hidden Star Wars" at 1 p.m. It is hosted by Steven Frenzel.

Watch anime, share fan art, and enjoy Japanese snacks "Manga and Anime Meetup" at 2 p.m. It is for fans entering sixth grade and up.

The Star Wars 501st Legion: Behind the Masks will be at 3 p.m. Meet the men and women cosplayers of the Midwest Garrison the Illinois Chapter of the 501st Legion! Learn how their costumes are made and more.
