Chattanooga football signs former MTSU basketball player

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Chattanooga has added former Middle Tennessee basketball player Joshua Phillips to its football roster.

The Mocs announced Monday that Phillips had transferred to Chattanooga and would play defensive end on their football team. Phillips, who lettered three seasons in basketball at Middle Tennessee, has two years of football eligibility remaining.

Chattanooga football coach Russ Huesman said in a statement that "he is a good athlete who can help us add depth at a position of need."

Phillips, who is 6-foot-8 and 230 pounds, averaged 1.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 5.3 minutes for Middle Tennessee's basketball team this past season.

Phillips was an all-state basketball player at Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee, but also played football until his senior year.
