Waukegan man charged in motorcycle crash near Island Lake

A 46-year-old Waukegan man faces charges of driving under the influence after crashing his motorcycle near Island Lake, authorities said.

John F. Hicks was driving his 2016 Harley Davidson with a 38-year-old female passenger at 6:18 p.m. Sunday on southbound Roberts Road at Lamphere Road in unincorporated McHenry County when he struck the rear of a 2011 Harley driven by an Antioch man, McHenry County Sheriff deputies said in a news release.

Hicks was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and is listed in critical condition, authorities said. The female passenger was also taken to Condell where she was treated and released.

The driver of the 2011 Harley was not injured, authorities said.

None of the individuals involved in the crash was wearing a helmet, authorities said. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
