Baseball: Dennis, Danielak selected in MLB draft
Onetime Rolling Meadows pitching standout Matt Dennis was taken in the 14th round of Major League Baseball's draft on Saturday, while Hersey grad Mike Danielak was selected in the 28th round.
The Colorado Rockies selected Dennis, who recently wrapped a standout junior season at Bradley. He finished 9-3 with a 3.89 ERA.
The former Northwest all-area team captain struck out 76 and walked 33 in 85⅔ innings this spring while keeping opponents to a batting average of .239.
Danielak pitched regularly in his first two seasons at Dartmouth before an injury kept him from competing last spring. This season, though, he excelled with his best collegiate season to date and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Danielak both started and relieved games at Darmouth this spring, finishing with a 2-3 record, a 2.95 ERA and a terrific 48-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
