Watch a screening of the 2015 documentary "Catching the Sun" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin, 39W830 Highland Ave.

Through the stories of workers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China, the film by director and producer Shalini Kantayya explores the global race to lead the clean energy future.

Over the course of a solar jobs training program, the film follows the hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar energy. With countries like China investing in innovative technologies and capitalizing on this trillion-dollar opportunity, "Catching the Sun" tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change with their own hands. Their successes and failures speak to one of the biggest questions of our time: will the U.S. actually be able to build a clean energy economy? Set against the struggle to build a "green economy," "Catching the Sun" will engage audiences in solutions to climate change and income equality. The movie runs 75 minutes and will be followed by 45 minutes of informal discussion time about the solar (PV) installation at the UUCE (9.8 KW system with 40 PV panels) and a recent residential PV installation in Elgin (3.75 KW system with 15 panels).

This event will be hosted by the church's Green Sanctuary Committee, including solar ambassadors with the Illinois Solar Energy Association. Find the event on Facebook.
