Coroner: Death of 8-month-old baby from Hammond was homicide

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) - Officials in Illinois have ruled the April death of an 8-month-old baby girl from Indiana a homicide.

The Cook County medical examiner says Maci Moor of Hammond died from head injuries due to child abuse and a contusion. The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/25R9sXp ) police have opened a criminal investigation into the baby's death.

Lake County sheriff's Detective Jeremy Kalvaitis says the baby was rushed to a hospital after police were called to a report of an infant in medical distress on April 15. She was taken to an Indiana hospital and then flown to a Chicago children's hospital. The baby was declared brain dead April 17 and pronounced dead April 19.
