Possible insanity defense in interstate shooting case?

The attorney for a suburban Milwaukee man charged in the fatal shooting of a Buffalo Grove woman along a Wisconsin interstate said yesterday he's not ruling out an insanity defense. Zachary Hays, 20, made an initial court appearance Thursday afternoon in Sauk County, Wisconsin, where he's charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide and three counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Fire leaves Hanover Park home uninhabitable

An accidental fire extensively damaged a Hanover Park home yesterday afternoon and caused minor injuries to one firefighter, fire officials say. Hanover Park firefighters responded to the one-story house on the 4500 block of DuPont Drive at 2:15 p.m., Battalion Chief Larry Pikora said. Full story.

Man shot in Elmhurst robbery attempt

One person was shot yesterday afternoon in an armed robbery attempt in an Elmhurst apartment complex parking lot. A 27-year-old man was shot in the hip at 1 p.m. outside the complex on the 200 block of East First Street, Elmhurst police said. Full story.

Zion man admits to having stolen guns

A Zion man charged with stealing more than 50 guns from a gun shop in 2015 pleaded guilty yesterday to aggravated possession of stolen firearms. Lawrence Taylor, now 19, had faced six to 60 years in prison if convicted of the thefts that happened between 11 p.m. May 31 and 5 a.m. June 1 last year from 5 Star Firearms on the 41000 block of Sheridan Road in Beach Park. White Sox add Morneau, Danish, subtract Latos

Very little has gone right since the Sox roared out to a 23-10 start, but that hasn't stopped GM Rick Hahn from trying to improve the roster. After acquiring veteran starter James Shields in a trade from San Diego on Saturday, the White Sox signed first baseman/designated hitter Justin Morneau to a one-year, $1 million contract on Thursday.
