District 62 Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Nelson Gray was honored by the Illinois Association of School Business Officials for serving as president. IASBO representatives Dr. Michael Jacoby, Cathy Johnson, Jennifer Hermes and Susan Harkin presented a check for $2,500 to the D62 Education Foundation. Foundation leaders Julie Luck Jensen, president, and Susan Adams, vice president, received the honorarium.

• Andrea Hesse, executive administrative assistant with Fremont School District 79, received the district's 2016 Distinguished Service Award for her exemplary work. A visible presence within the District 79 community for many years, Hesse also received the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association's Award of Merit for her dedication and commitment to the Fremont community.

• Ryan Gardner, an associate at Lavelle Law, Palatine, served as a committee member for the AGORA Sneakerball Gala, which raised $40,000 to benefit Kicks 4 The City and Chicago Public School's Students in Temporary Living Situations program. Held at Venue One and hosted by Laroyce Hawkins of NBC's hit show "Chicago PD," the event featured live music, food and drinks, a DJ, a silent auction and interactive games for attendees.

• Arlington Heights resident Clare Budin will represent Rolling Meadows High School and the state of Illinois at Brandeis University's Global Youth Summit on the Future of Medicine. Students with exceptional academic records and test scores, as well as documented interest in a medical or health career, were invited to apply for the Boston summit. Out of the hundreds of applicants, Budin was one of only 200 delegates selected for the program. As a delegate to the summit, Budin will gain a unique, behind-the-scenes insight into the dynamic world of health care through experiential learning, guest lectures and networking opportunities with leaders and innovators in the global medical community.

• Justin Loquercio, a recent Wheeling High School graduate, is the 2016 winner of the ScanlonWorks Robotic Scholarship. Loquercio was one of 12 applicants from the Northwest suburbs who wrote essays about robotics, how they inspire him and how he sees it influencing future generations. The $1,000 scholarship was awarded by Arlington Heights obstetrics gynecologist Dr. Susan Scanlon, who is also the author of "The Gyne's Guide for College Women, How to have a Healthy, Safe and Happy Four Years" and host of "Respect Yourself, Protect Yourself," college prep workshops in the Chicago area. Loquercio will be studying chemical engineering at the University of Missouri in the fall.
