Child sex offender charged with photographing juveniles in Buffalo Grove

A convicted child sex offender from Woodridge is charged with illegally photographing two juveniles at a Buffalo Grove business where he was a customer, police said Thursday.

Gregory A. Rollins, 35, of the 6400 block of Taylor Drive in Woodridge, faces one count of child photography by a sex offender, a Class 2 felony.

Rollins was convicted in 1999 of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child in Cook County, according to the Illinois State Police sex offender database.

Buffalo Grove Deputy Police Chief Roy Bethge said an anonymous complaint tipped off investigators of photos taken of a juvenile at a business in the 1300 block of Busch Parkway. As a result of that investigation, authorities seized Rollins' technology equipment and took it to the Lake County State's Attorney Cyber Crime Division for forensic analysis.

Investigators were able to identify two juveniles in one photograph, neither of whom are residents of Buffalo Grove, according to police. Both were informed of the case against Rollins, police said.

Police are not identifying the business where the photograph was taken.

Charges were filed Tuesday, less than a week after the initial tip was reported, Bethge said.

Rollins was in custody Thursday at the Lake County jail on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, June 14.
