Fire leaves Hanover Park home uninhabitable

An accidental fire extensively damaged a Hanover Park home Thursday afternoon and caused minor injuries to one firefighter, fire officials say.

Hanover Park firefighters responded to the one-story house on the 4500 block of DuPont Drive at 2:15 p.m., Battalion Chief Larry Pikora said.

The homeowners had evacuated by the time firefighters arrived, he said. The fire started on the outside of the home and climbed the exterior into the attic, he said.

"It's uninhabitable," Pikora said.

Pikora declined to describe exactly how the fire started and said the cause remains under investigation. No damage estimates were available. The injured firefighter was taken to St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates.

Hanover Park firefighters were assisted by Barlett, Roselle, Bloomingdale, and Hoffman Estates.
