Hottest ticket in town? Chicago's 'Hamilton' tickets on sale June 21

Editor's note: This story was updated to correct ticket prices.

The mad dash for "Hamilton" in Chicago begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, when single tickets go on sale for the hip-hop musical's national tour launching here in September.

The ticket sale comes a little more than a week after Sunday's Tony Awards, where Lin-Manuel Miranda's Pulitzer Prize-winning bio-musical about founding father and first treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton will likely dominate.

Tickets will be available at The PrivateBank Theatre box office, 18 W. Monroe St., Chicago, by phone at (800) 775-2000 and online at broadwayinchicago.com.

Tickets range from $65 to $180 for regular performances with a select number of premium seats available and some pricing increases during the holidays. There is a six-ticket maximum per household.

The show, which is based on Ron Chernow's 2005 best-seller, received a record-setting 16 Tony nominations, including nods for best musical, for writer/composer/lyricist and star Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and actress Phillipa Soo, a Libertyville native.

The Chicago cast has not yet been announced.

Producer Jeffrey Seller cautioned theatergoers about the possibility of fraudulent sellers hawking counterfeit tickets and urged them to purchase tickets only from official Broadway in Chicago outlets.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan issued an alert earlier this week warning consumers to be wary of phony websites imitating legitimate online sellers and offering fake tickets for inflated prices.

"Websites claiming to offer advance tickets before they are available to the public should stand out as a red flag," said Madigan in a prepared statement.

Performances of "Hamilton" begin Sept. 27 and run through March 19, 2017, at The PrivateBank Theatre.
