Teen bands set to battle in Palatine

Palatine Park District and Salt Creek Park District present the annual Palatine Teen Battle of the Bands on Monday, June 13, as part of the Illinois Teen Battle of the Bands statewide competition offered through the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA).

The Illinois Teen Battle of the Bands series is sponsored by Tribeca Flashpoint College. The Teen Battle of the Bands event has been held for over 25 years in Palatine. The winner of the teen battle will move on to compete in the regional event; the winner of the regional battle will compete in Springfield, at the statewide competition held during the state fair in August.

To qualify for the teen category, band members must be between the ages of 12 and 20, and 50 percent of the band must be no older than 19 years as of August 15, 2016, to qualify for this age group.

The presenting sponsor of this year's Palatine Teen Battle of the Bands is Quest Academy.

Three teen bands have been selected to perform on June 13:

Nothing Yet covers songs of artists from the '60s through today with an emphasis on classic and alternative rock. The band also has original material. All band members grew up in Palatine and attended Palatine High School, and the band has been playing together for over six years. Nothing Yet has played talent shows, block parties, local bars and fests. In 2015, they won local and regional Illinois battle of the band contests. They love performing live and are all about having a good time with the audience. Check them out on Facebook or their YouTube channel.

Nova consists of Ryan Carlson (vocalist and guitar), Nathan Boldt (lead guitar), Bailey Carlson (bass guitar) and Tim Boldt (drums). Formerly known as Blue Moon, the band has played at events and competitions since July 2013. Their public debut occurred on July 4, 2013, at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, where they performed during the intermission of a performance by Nothing Yet.

The Rand Band has been making music and performing locally at various events since 2008. They mostly play contemporary rock and pop tunes, and a majority of the songs are written by band members. The Rand Band currently has five original songs. Their first single "Freedom" was recently released. They can be seen and heard on Facebook and their YouTube channel.

This event will take place at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 256 E. Palatine Road, Palatine. In the event of inclement weather, the Teen Battle will be held in the Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood St.
