Injured Barrington Hills officer, other driver remain hospitalized

A Lake in the Hills man and a Barrington Hills police officer remained hospitalized Monday with injuries suffered when their vehicles collided early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Police said officer Dominic Caputo, 54, was injured when the Ford Explorer squad vehicle he was driving collided at 3:09 a.m. Sunday with a Hyundai Tucson driven by 19-year-old Kevin James on County Line Road near Bellwood Drive.

After being cut from their vehicles, both drivers were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with serious but nonlife-threatening injures, authorities said.

Barrington Hills police spokesman Bill Walsh said the two men were still at the hospital Monday.

The crash remains under investigation by Barrington Hills police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
