Former St. Charles-area resident slain in DeKalb

A 19-year-old former St. Charles-area resident died over the weekend after her boyfriend beat and stabbed her to death in a DeKalb apartment after an argument, DeKalb police said.

Police say they were called to Moorea Desroches' apartment on the 900 block of Kimberly Drive on Sunday after her mother, unable to reach her, asked them to check on her well-being, police said in a news release.

They found Desroches' boyfriend, Michael Kulpin, 20, and two friends in the apartment. A search of the apartment led to the discovery of Desroches' body in a bedroom closet.

Police believe Kulpin and Desroches got into an argument late Friday night that lasted into the early morning hours Saturday. Police say Kulpin battered Desroches and then stabbed her several times, eventually covering her body with household items inside the closet.

The two people with Kulpin have not been charged and are not suspected in her death.

Kulpin was charged with two counts first degree murder, aggravated domestic battery and concealment of a homicidal death.

His bail was set at $2 million. He remains in the DeKalb County jail.

Desroches' Facebook page said she had attended St. Charles North High School.
