Skateboard star Tony Hawk pays tribute to late Vermont DJ

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Skateboard star Tony Hawk has paid tribute to a late skate-loving Vermont DJ.

Hawk made a surprise appearance Saturday at a naming ceremony for Burlington's new Andy A_Dog Williams Skatepark.

Williams was a well-known local DJ and avid skateboarder who died of leukemia in 2013 at the age of 38.

Hawk's foundation provided the city with a $10,000 grant to help pay for the skatepark, which was completed late last year.

Hawk tells WCAX-TV that it's the 500th park his foundation has helped to develop. And while he doesn't visit every park he supports, he says he "felt like it was the right time and place to do this" since it also was a celebration of Williams' life.
