Help Feed Low-income Families this Summer

The Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) is seeking community members to help feed area families suffering from food insecurity during the summer through their Feed the Kids (FTK) program. Food insecurity is the result when families are unable to obtain the food they need due to access or financial constraints. 99% of children enrolled in FTK rely on free/subsidized school meals during the school year. Before they enrolled in FTK, 29% of children went to bed hungry, with 49% of those families having parents do the same in order to provide for their children. Community members can "sponsor" a low-income family in this program for $75 a month or $225 for the summer. Every month of summer, 100 low-income families, with over 400 children, receive a 175-200 lb. grocery package through Feed the Kids. These grocery packages contain 15 varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables, 7 packages of meat, 4 boxes of non-perishables and several loaves of bread. If you or someone you know is interested in making a difference in DuPage and Kane County, HSP's contact info is listed below.
