200 McHenry County residents expected at Crystal Lake Relay For Life

This weekend, 200 McHenry County residents will join together at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of South McHenry County to help save more lives from cancer. The fundraising event will take place from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. June 3-4 at Immanuel Lutheran School, 300 S. Pathway Court, Crystal Lake. The event is free and open to the public.

The Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all.

Relay For Life of South McHenry County is a community gathering where teams and individuals camp out at Immanuel Lutheran and take turns walking around a track while enjoying entertainment and activities.

There will be a live performance by Brian Castillo, silent auction, wing eating contest, lip sync contest and so much more.

All cancer survivors and their caregivers are invited to a complimentary dinner at 5 p.m. Immediately after the opening ceremony at 6 p.m., survivors will take the first lap of the event, led by the Crystal Lake Strikers. Caregivers will join for the second lap.

Dollars raised help the American Cancer Society save lives by funding groundbreaking cancer research, supporting education and risk reduction efforts, and providing free information and critical services for people with cancer who need them.

In addition to the support of the community, Relay For Life of South McHenry County is also supported by many businesses and organizations. Some of the event's 2016 sponsors include: Sage Products, Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers, AptarGroup, Yumz Gourmet Frozen Yogurt, Centegra Health System, Sherman Mechanical and Northwest Herald.

Take action this year and help make cancer a priority by participating or donating to the Relay For Life of South McHenry County.
