Glen Ellyn man dies after being found in Oak Brook pond

A Glen Ellyn man died Sunday after he was found unresponsive in an Oak Brook pond, police said.

About 7:35 a.m., authorities responded to the Briarwood Lakes subdivision for a call of someone struggling in the water, according to a news release from Oak Brook police.

The Oak Brook Fire Department's dive team searched the pond and pulled out Isaac Martinez, 24, who authorities estimate had been in the water approximately 30 minutes.

Divers continued searching but found no one else, fire officials said.

Martinez was taken in grave condition to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

His broken down car, which had a couple of flat tires, was found abandoned on southbound Route 83 near Briarwood Lakes, Sgt. Benjamin Kadolph said.

Authorities said they are unsure why Martinez was in the water. An investigation is ongoing.
