Sorry to see rights opposed in hometown

I am the first valedictorian from James B. Conant High School (Class of 1966.) I learned recently that a group of 73 parents and 63 students has filed a lawsuit, the apparent goal of which is to deny to transgender students a right most of us take for granted, the right to use restrooms and locker rooms compatible with our gender. I want to express my deep sense of shame that the school district that gave so much to me in my high school years is now having to deal with attacks from persons living in the communities that nurtured me, persons who are uncomfortable with allowing others to have the same rights to accommodations that they or their children enjoy.
