Illinois man dies in police custody after traffic stop

PEKIN, Ill. (AP) - A central Illinois man has died while being transported by Pekin police after a routine traffic stop.

Police spokesman Mike Eeten says the 32-year-old man was taken into custody without incident after the police who stopped him discovered a previous warrant for his arrest.

The Pekin Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/1WSbTa8 ) that the man complained he was having trouble breathing while being transported Saturday morning. Officers pulled over and requested medical help.

Eeten says the officers performed CPR when the man stopped breathing and took him to Pekin Hospital's emergency room.

Authorities have not released the man's name.

The Illinois State Police are investigating.
