Developer interested in Elk Grove Township Golf Road property

Elk Grove Township has a potential buyer for its youth services building in Mount Prospect, which would then go back onto the tax rolls, officials said.

Supervisor Mike Sweeney said negotiations are underway with DiMucci Companies to purchase the building at 401 W. Golf Road. DiMucci, a real estate development firm, owns the Elmhurst Road shopping plaza located just east of the youth services building and open land to the south and west.

A potential sale price hasn't been disclosed, but officials previously said the property was valued at $250,000.

If the township and DiMucci come to terms on a deal, the sale would be subject to final approval by Elk Grove Township residents at a special town meeting, under Illinois law.

A simple majority vote of those who attend the meeting is all that's required, so long as at least 15 registered voters attend, Sweeney said. He promised no disruption to the township's youth and family counseling programs, which would be relocated.

The sale is part of a consolidation effort township officials have been discussing since late last year.

They also plan to sell the township headquarters building, 2400 S. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, and look for a new building. It's also possible they will sell a township-owned former school building at 711 Chelmsford Lane in Elk Grove Village, now leased to a nonprofit day care center.

The township board has hired SC Group to represent them in real estate matters and conduct a space needs assessment and market analysis on all township-owned properties. The firm is being paid $20,000, plus commissions on future real estate transactions.

Sweeney said the youth services building could be sold by the end of the summer.
