Baseball: Fremd battles past Deerfield in 8 innings

Fremd's baseball team is scheduled to play in a 10 a.m. Saturday regional championship game against host Warren after the Vikings topped Deerfield 7-6 in 8 innings Friday.

Zach Goodman scored the decisive run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a fielder's choice.

Fremd (17-12), the No. 8 seed in the Class 4A Stevenson sectional, out-hit No. 9 seed Deerfield 11-9.

Tommy Josten finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, and Ethan Hajdukovic went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.

J.T. Kolderup, who earned the win in relief, had a pair of hits, including a double.

Fremd jumped ahead with a 4-run first inning, as Hajdukovic's triple scored Josten and Charlie Kaye. Jake LaGasse and Jack Molnar also had RBI singles in the inning.

Warren, the top seed in the sectional, advanced by beating Hersey 7-3 in a Wednesday semifinal.

at Palatine: The host Pirates and Lake Forest were scoreless in the third inning when play was suspended. They're scheduled to resume play at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the winner advancing to an 11 a.m. Monday matchup against Stevenson.

at Glenbrook North: Prospect's semifinal game against Lake Zurich has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, with the winner advancing to a regional final against Glenbrook North at 10 a.m. Monday.

at Marian Central: Friday's semifinal game between Woodstock North and Antioch was rescheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that game will play St. Viator for the 3A regional title in a subsequent game scheduled for approximately 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
