2 of 3 tracks back but delays persist for some after Metra derailment

Two out of three tracks used for rush-hour service on three Metra lines are open after a train derailment north of Chicago Union Station Friday afternoon, but riders can still expect extensive delays.

The Milwaukee District, North Central Service and Heritage Corridor lines are affected.

The train was heading into Union Station to go into service on the Milwaukee West Line and derailed at Canal Street shortly after 3 p.m. No passengers were on the train and no one was injured.

After the derailment, Metra was working with one track but cleared a second around 5 p.m.

Metra crews are working to clear the third track but it's not clear how long that will take and when normal service will resume, spokesman Michael Gillis said.
