IDOT to halt road work in many areas during holiday weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Transportation says it is halting road construction in many areas of the state during the Memorial Day weekend.

In a new release Thursday, the department says it plans to open lanes in many construction zones to improve traffic flow during a busy travel time.

Work will be suspended beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, and through Tuesday morning.

IDOT is asking motorists to remain alert and to continue to use caution in work zones. Work zone speed limits will remain in effect in some areas.
