19th-century country fair in Schaumburg

The Schaumburg Park District will host the Spring Valley Country Fair, 19th century-style community farm fair, on Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12, at the Volkening Heritage Farm, 201 S. Plum Grove Road in Schaumburg.

"Country fairs were a fun experience in the 19th century," farm program coordinator Patty Kennedy said. "Visitors will see interpreters showing animals, baked goods and farm equipment in competition for blue ribbons - the quintessential prize for the best of any fair."

A 19th century farm equipment salesman will demonstrate the latest machinery to help with chores, while a medicine man will be on hand to pitch his latest elixir.

The event will run from noon to 4 p.m. both days, and also features carnival games, music and a bake sale. Admission is $12 per family or $4 per person. For more information, call (847) 985-2102 or visit parkfun.com.
