Elgin communications director resigns

Elgin's director of communications is leaving for a similar post at a Yorkville school district.

Kristine Rogowski resigned from her Elgin job effective June 30, City Manager Sean Stegall said in an email Wednesday to city council members.

She was hired in January 2015; her current salary is just more than $109,000.

She will start July 1 as director of communication and community engagement for Yorkville Community Unit School District 115 at a salary of $102,000, where her hiring was approved April 25, school district officials said.

Rogowski did not respond to a request for comment.

She most recently served as member relations consultant for Metro West Council of Government, and worked in communications for school districts in Oswego and Downers Grove.

Stegall said the city benefited from Rogowski's enthusiasm, persistence and expertise. He included a quote from Rogowski in his email.

"I have enjoyed being a part of the city of Elgin team and am especially thankful for the amazing employees with whom I have had the pleasure of working," she said. "I am also very grateful for the many opportunities and experiences afforded to me by the city manager and city council during my employment in Elgin."

Stegall said he will postpone any decisions regarding filling the position until the city finds out the full impact of expected budget cuts from the state.
