Reassessment notices mailed to Maine Township taxpayers

Assessments in Maine Township are increasing, as indicated by reassessment notices mailed to property owners Thursday by the Cook County Assessor's office.

The median assessed value of homes increased 17.52 percent to $28,706 this year from $24,351 in 2013. The median sale price for single-family homes and other non-condo residential properties increased to $287,000 in 2015, from $243,000 in 2013, the assessor's office reported.

In Cook County, properties are assessed at 10 percent of their market value. Reassessments take place every three years, and Maine Township is the sixth township to be evaluated so far this year.

Taxpayers have until June 27 to appeal their reassessment values if they wish. For appeal documents, visit cookcountyassessor.com.
