4th person arrested in girl's shooting at family gathering

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in southwestern Illinois have arrested a fourth person in connection with the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old girl.

Thirty-year-old Shannon P. Combes was arrested Tuesday and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Adams County Sheriff Brian VonderHarr says Combes knew the victim's family.

Melina Torres died Friday after being rushed to a hospital from a family gathering southeast of Quincy. Three others have been arrested, including the girl's uncle, Daniel W. Roberts. Authorities say Roberts gave a loaded .22-caliber rifle to a 3-year-old, leading to Melina's death.

The girl's mother, Karen Torres, and grandmother, Julie Roberts-Cole, were charged with obstruction of justice. Authorities say they concealed the weapon.

It was not immediately clear if any of the four has an attorney to speak for them.
