Waukegan fishing derby

The Waukegan Park District's annual fishing derby is set for 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at the pond in Bevier Park, 2255 Yorkhouse Road, Waukegan. The Waukegan Park District has been granted a "free fishing day" as declared by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, so no state fishing licenses are required for this event. Before the derby, Bevier is stocked with several hundred pounds of catfish. Great prizes are awarded according to age categories for the largest fish caught. Preregistration is highly encouraged. Check in begins at 7 a.m. for preregistered participants and day-of-event registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The cost varies based on age.
