WARREN HIGH SCHOOL TRIATHLETES COMPETE IN USA TRIATHLON

HIGH SCHOOL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Warren Township High School Triathlon Club participated in the first USA Triathlon High School National Championships, held Friday, April 22, at Clemson University in Greenville, South Carolina. One of the largest clubs in attendance, seven athletes competed in the competition; seniors Lindsey Travelstead and Dylan Hellickson, juniors Ciara Ward, Andrew Miller, and Estevan Lemus, and freshmen Ellie Nerheim and Daniel Whalen. Assistant Coach Tim Ward accompanied the students to the national competition.

An at-capacity field of 125 high school athletes from around the country took to the 750-meter open water swim, 19.6-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer run course for the race, showcasing triathlon talent among rising triathletes ages 13-18 who represented both high school and club teams.

"I was very proud of our club's representation at this inaugural event," said Assistant Coach Ward, "It was a great experience for all the athletes, to not only compete at such a high level, but to be a part of this national competition, where collegiate recruiters could observe the upcoming talent." The USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships were held at Clemson University on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

The Warren Triathlon Club is entering their sixth season, and recently recognized by U.S.A. Triathlon Organization as one of only twenty High School Triathlon Club programs to receive their 2016 $1000.00 Grant Award. The Warren club also serves as a "seed club" for Lake County High Schools, open to area high school students interested in club triathlon from schools that currently do not have a club.
