Auburn defensive back Tim Irvin announces transfer

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn defensive back Tim Irvin is transferring to another school.

Irvin announced his decision on Twitter on Tuesday, saying: "It was a great journey but it will be better for me to pursue my journey elsewhere." An Auburn spokesman confirmed that Irvin is leaving.

The nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, Irvin played in 10 games as a freshman last season. He made 18 tackles.

Irvin was a four-star safety prospect out of Westminster Christian School in Miami. According to 247Sports, he was recruited by former Auburn assistants Will Muschamp and Travaris Robinson, who have since left the program. Muschamp is now the head coach at South Carolina and Robinson is his defensive coordinator.

Irvin didn't indicate where he planned to transfer.
