Bartholomew County board blocks 100,000-panel solar farm
COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - Strong opposition by neighbors has led a south central Indiana board of zoning appeals to block a proposed solar farm.
The Bartholomew County board unanimously to deny a petition by Vogel Solar LLC of Santa Monica, California, to erect 100,000 solar panels on 156 acres in the northeastern part of the county.
The (Columbus) Republic reports (http://bit.ly/1TxDpUQ ) about 20 people who live near the proposed project pleaded with board members during a public meeting Monday night to consider the effect on their lives if the panels were erected. The opponents presented a petition with about 65 signatures and said other nearby residents didn't even know about the proposal.
The solar farm was proposed for a site about 35 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
