Community volunteers honored at senior center celebration

"Cheers to Our Volunteers!" was the theme of the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council 31st Annual Volunteer Recognition on Friday, April 22. PTSCC celebrated the achievements of its nearly 300 volunteers during a reception at the Cotillion, in Palatine.

"We couldn't be successful without you, volunteers make it happen!" said Karen Fay, PTSCC board chairman, in her address to the volunteers,

A special thank you to Friendship Village of Schaumburg, Plum Creek Supportive Living and Lexington Health Network for their sponsorship of this event.

This year's honorees are:

• Donelda Danz: Board of Directors Award for her outstanding service as chairman of the 2016 gala fundraiser.

• Rem Stokes: Fundraising Award for his creative ideas for fundraising, his solicitation of donations to the endowment and his continuing generosity.

• Pan American Bank: Corporate Partner Award for its strong support of PTSCC through top level sponsorship of the gala the last two years and donation of a hot-contested Blackhawks live auction package.

• Carol Kawanaka: Income Tax Award for using her knowledge and expertise to help PTSCC clients.

• Michael Noens: Special Award for creating a video highlighting the Home Delivered Meals program shared at the gala.

• Barb Sullivan: Adult Day Services Award for sharing her musical talents on the piano for clients.

• Leonid Korniychuk: Russian Outreach Award for his participation and dedication to the center and its Russian speaking clients.

• Maria Lourdes Chavelas: Latino Outreach Award for her energetic willingness to help and consistent positive attitude in assisting the Spanish speaking clients.

• John and Ruth Sellers: General Recreation Award for their service at special events, and support and sharing of new ideas with the Program department.

• Marcella Johnson: Gift Shop Award for her hard work and dedication in the gift shop weekly for the last two years.

• Bill Little: 50+ Computer Learning Center Award for sharing his knowledge of technology in the Open Computer Lab weekly for the last 10 years.

• Mary Schramer: Office Award for her volunteerism in the office for many years, knowledge about our services, and pleasant personality.

• Sarah (Marilynn) Rausen: Home Delivered Meals Award for her dedication to the program and her care for her senior clients.

• Susan Rosen: Café Award for her service and support in the kitchen and dedication and reliability.

Established in 1973, PTSCC's mission is to provide programs and services which support older adults and their families by encouraging independence, well-being and connection to the community. PTSCC operates a multipurpose senior center offering social, nutrition, education, health, recreation, and support services to Palatine Township area residents 50 and over, and is one of only five accredited senior centers in Illinois.
