Mundelein High School inducts first Schuler Scholars class

Mundelein High School inducted its first class of Schuler Scholars as part of a recent partnership between the high school and the Schuler Scholar Program to help increase college access for Mundelein's students.

The induction took place May 16 at the Mundelein High School cafeteria.

Since 2001, the Schuler Scholar Program has helped highly motivated, yet underrepresented students in Lake and Cook counties gain access to and succeed at some of the most selective colleges in the nation. Schuler Scholars are invited to learn more about the program and apply in the spring of their eighth grade year.

In its first year at Mundelein, more than 75 students were invited to apply to be part of the program. Of the 35 students who applied, 15 were selected.

"The Class of 2020 is very strong academically. Together, they have earned strong grades and test scores; but, beyond that, they are passionate and curious learners who are actively involved in their school communities," Carissa Jandrositz, the new Schuler School director at Mundelein High School, said of the incoming Schuler Scholars. "They are eager to enter Mundelein High School and I am confident that they will be leaders both in and out of the classroom while striving to achieve the goals that they have set for themselves."

Scholars at Mundelein High School will have a dedicated Schuler resource room, where with the help of Schuler staff, they will get the support they need to be successful. Of Schuler Scholars who complete the program, 100 percent go on to competitive private colleges and receive, on average, more than $50,000 in annual, non-loan financial aid from the colleges that they attend.

"We are proud to be a Schuler Scholar School and we look forward to this partnership with Schuler for many years to come," Mundelein High School District 120 Superintendent Kevin Myers said. "We welcome our new inductees into the program. We will begin working together with the students and the Schuler Program from the students' first day as freshmen until they graduate, and beyond."
