Geneva church to host peace marchers May 31

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St., will host 20 peace marchers, who will present a program opposing mass incarceration in the U.S. and isolation or solitary confinement.

A 150-mile de-incarceration walk from Chicago to Thomson, Ill., will take place May 28-June 11. The walk is sponsored by Voices for Creative Nonviolence. They are opposing plans for the newest administrative supermax federal prison - ADX Thomson. Although Illinois is poised to pass a state law restricting the use of solitary confinement, the federal bureau of prisons will double its number of isolation cells by adding 1,900 of them in Thomson.
