Mom of Giants' Apple to join ESPN's 'Sunday NFL Countdown'

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) - The mother of Giants first-round pick Eli Apple will make an NFL debut of her own this fall.

ESPN said Monday that Annie Apple would join "Sunday NFL Countdown" as a contributor. She will offer player profiles and other stories for the pregame show.

Annie Apple is a blogger who gained widespread attention with her social media posts on draft day last month. Her cornerback son was drafted 10th overall out of Ohio State.

Among her observations was questioning why dessert wasn't served at a reception. That led to Commissioner Roger Goodell sending her brownies.

She later wrote a first-person guest column for Sports Illustrated and appeared on several ESPN shows.

Senior coordinating producer Seth Markman says that "when we met with her in-person at ESPN we were blown away by her relatability, her sense of humor, and just how unafraid she is to speak her mind."
